| My Comments | : | Lots of people rate this the best show ever. I think it's OK, and certainly should be part of everyone's collection, but probably not in the first pass. However, the Set II closer, Morning Dew, is abosultely amazing; certainly the best version I've ever heard. It's also the best showing of Keith's that I've heard. The Taper's Compendium Volume II lists this as perhaps the best closing song, ever! Here's what I wrote to a friend:
The next time you take a car ride of more than 15 minutes, and want to get there really keyed up, take along the Cornell 05-08-77 Disc #3. [This is generally regarded as one of the best shows ever, and a lot of folks think it is *the* best show. I think it's a good show, but there are some standout songs on it for sure.] Don't try this on the little five-minutes-to-the-grocery-store commute! You need 15 minutes for this to work. Anyhow, 15 minutes before reaching your destination, pop the CD in and go to track #3, Morning Dew (see where this is heading, yet?). Crank up the volume to where you can see the music. Hell, go up to where you can *taste* the music. Then sit back and listen. At 3 minutes or so, don't be disappointed, and at 5 minutes, don't get too excited, 'cause at 10 minutes this *ucker's gonna take off! Listen to the music, enjoy the high, and when the song comes crashing down at the end, *turn the radio off*. This is key for the experience. You're gonna be grinnin' and hummin' as you strut thru the door, and people are going to look at you strange! Notes: It's generally best to have lots of open road in front of you when doing this. I'm not responsible for any speeding tickets, traffic violations, accidents or other medical incidents arising out of this experience! |
